Private instruction that connects the mind, body, and breath — building a safe, natural, and fun relationship with the water that grows into a skill for life.
Greater Portland · All ages & skill levelsMost swim lessons stop at technique. The Odyssey Method connects the mind, body, and breath — a fully individualized, safety-first practice shaped entirely around each swimmer, at their own pace, with kindness and consistency every single time. For every age, from toddlers to adults.
We connect mind, body, and breath to build a safe, natural, and fun comfort in the water — turning fear into curiosity, and curiosity into joy.
Real technique and real water safety: floating, front and back, treading, and confident, capable swimming that stays for a lifetime.
Along the way, each swimmer practices a resilience that reaches far beyond the pool — a steadiness of breath, body, and mind.
The calm we build in the water goes with them everywhere.
Finding a steady breath when nerves rise.
Feeling the nervous system settle under challenge.
Staying calm and focused when things get hard.
From the first hello to the final review, each swimmer is guided through a clear, personal process.
Before lessons begin, we meet online to understand the swimmer's history, comfort in the water, and goals — and to map the journey ahead together.
Private lessons Monday through Thursday — fully individualized, safety-first, and paced entirely around the swimmer.
At the journey's end, a virtual wrap-up: what they achieved, a simple skill assessment, and clear recommendations for what comes next.
The method is an experience that unfolds over time — so we offer committed journeys, not quick packs. Summer lessons are available Monday through Thursday to complete each journey before the season ends.
Every journey is private, one-on-one, and 30 minutes per lesson. Payment confirmed at booking.
A beautiful private outdoor pool tucked into the Portland treeline. Weekday openings are ready to book now — Monday through Thursday, through the end of summer.
Over six months, Alexander has nurtured and grown our child's love for swimming. Our four-year-old began afraid to get into the pool, and now can jump in, swim to the bottom, and safely swim front, back, and tread water. His approach centers on kindness and consistency — everyone has fun, even us parents watching.
The best coach we've had for either of our two boys. He has a natural gift with children — challenging them and teaching new skills while laughing and having fun. He's remarkably adaptable across ages and skill levels, even within the same lesson, with apparent grace and ease.
A perfect blend of skill and patience. He transformed my four-year-old from a hesitant swimmer to confidently covering meters in the water. The personalized approach, fun lessons, and emphasis on water safety make him an outstanding instructor.
Every journey begins with a complimentary virtual intake. Summer spots are genuinely limited — once the weekday calendar fills, it's full for the season. Reach out and Coach Alexander will set up your intake and confirm your time within 24 hours.
